A Burlington man is in custody after allegedly killing his wife with a meat cleaver and critically injuring his mother-in-law, police say.
Aita Gurung, 34, returned home Thursday afternoon after voluntarily admitting himself to the hospital for a mental-health evaluation, The Burlington Free press reported.
Gurung called police Saturday about his mental state as it related to concerns over his relationship with his wife, Yogeswari Khadka, 32, police Chief Brandon del Pozo said.

The attack began shortly after Gurung was relased Thursday afternoon. The incident took place at the family home and ended outside with one armed neighbor intervening and detaining Gurung until police arrived, del Pozo said.
Khadka died from severe head injuries, including wounds to her skull arms and hands.
