J.K. Rowling is apologizing after claiming that President Trump ignored a boy in a wheelchair.
In a series of tweets late Monday, Rowling said multiple sources have told her that she did not portray a “full or accurate representation of their interaction.”
“I very clearly projected my own sensitivities around the issue of disabled people being overlooked or ignored onto the images I saw,” Rowling tweeted.
“If that caused any distress to that boy or his family, I apologise unreservedly.”
Rowling said she is deleting all her previous tweets on the subject.
Rowling — the author of the “Harry Potter” series and a frequent Trump critic — had posted a series of tweets, including one with a now-deleted clip of Trump appearing to ignore a boy in a wheelchair at a news conference last month.
Other video has emerged showing Trump speaking to the child, and the boy’s mother reportedly posted to Facebook to confirm that the president did not ignore her son.
“Trump imitated a disabled reporter. Now he pretends not to see a child in a wheelchair, as though frightened he might catch his condition,” Rowling wrote on Friday.
“This monster of narcissism values only himself and his pale reflections. The disabled, minorities, transgender people, the poor, women. … (unless related to him by ties of blood, and therefore his creations) are treated with contempt, because they do not resemble Trump.”
