Two killed in Va. police helicopter crash near Charlott…

A state police helicopter crashed near Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday, killing two people hours after violent protests in the city, according to a report.

The state chopper went down near the Birdwood Golf Course, the Daily Progress newspaper reported.

Virginia State Police posted on Facebook that a helicopter crashed, but didn’t immediately say it was with the force.

No one on the ground was injured, state police said.

The golf course sits on the border of Charlottesville and Albemarle.

The helicopter went down about seven miles southwest of Charlottesville, Va.

The helicopter was flying low near homes before it crashed in the woods, neighbors told a reporter with the newspaper.

It’s unclear if the crash was related to Saturday’s violence, in which one person was killed after a silver Dodge Charger plowed into a crowd of counter protesters.

This is a developing story. Check back for more updates.
